A fully guided tour to view ongoing restoration at the Domus Aurea. Explore Nero's 'Golden Palace' and step back into Ancient Rome.
The tour lasts approximately 75 minutes and is available in English, Italian or Spanish on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Group sizes are restricted to 23 visitors, and you'll be accompanied at all times by an official guide. The only way to discover this wonder of opulent Ancient Rome is as part of a guided tour.
Part of the tour offers a unique immersion in the day to day (though far from ordinary!) life of this incredible space via a series of virtual-reality and multimedia interludes. The exhibition begins towards the end of your visit and then continues in another space, one you'll be directed to at the end of the Domus tour. The exhibition can only be explored on the same day as your visit.

Overview
The tour includes multimedia presentations and 3D immersive technology that will give you the most amazing insights into the history of, and day to day happenings in, the Domus Aurea.
Please note that the 3D Oculus Rift headsets that are used as part of the virtual-reality time machine are not intended for prolonged use by children under the ages of 13, nor for anyone suffering from epilepsy or any serious eye conditions. Any and all multimedia commentaries are, for now, in English and Italian only.
The tour also includes a downloadable ebook guide in PDF, mobi and epub formats.

27th May 2024If I could give it more stars, I would. This is one of the hidden gems of Rome. The research and technology. behind this museum is exceptional, including virtual reality. You are transported to the past, right there, where it happened and a very knowledgeable guide is there with you along the way to explain everything.I wish all the monuments had something like this. It has some of the oldest Roman structures available, including the oldest dome. Amazing experience, you have to see it if you go to Rome. And even better, since not many people know about it, it is a small group, not the crowded place you see everywhere in Rome.5 starsJC, Ireland

29th Mar 2024The Domus Aurea is amazing. Tickets are sold for only 25 visitors at a time, with timed entry. They sell out very, very quickly. So to get tickets, it is critical to use a reliable ticketing company that will be on top of it. Otherwise you risk either being locked out of them, so you will have to spend a lot of time checking and re-checking the Domus Aurea site to see when tickets come up for sale. Better to let tickitaly do that. I highly recommend tickitaly and will use them again when I visit Italy.5 starsJH, United States

- The site is currently described as being 'partially accessible' to wheelchair users; given that restoration is ongoing, this tour is therefore not recommended.
- Please be sure to wear appropriate footwear and also take along a warm jacket, for the high levels of humidity underground as much as anything else.
