Visitor information for viewing Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper
At tickitaly we spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get people in to see the Last Supper. There is just no getting around the fact that enormous demand into tiny venue simply does not add up. We are trying some different approaches, and this - joining a larger more inclusive tour - is one of them.
The biggest problem is that the philosophy of the organisation behind ticketing for the Last Supper is geared towards satisfying tour groups and large parties. This is, begrudgingly, understandable ... if they can fill their slots with single large bookings as opposed to multiple individual travellers, then they're going to opt for the easy route every time. This leaves us pretty much picking up the crumbs for you, the DIY traveller.
Don't misunderstand us - we do fulfill between 50 and 70% of the orders we take (this varies according to the time of year) - but that still leaves a lot of unlucky and unhappy customers.
So, we've joined forces with a Milan company that organises regular group tours, and have a long established arrangement with the Last Supper 'management' - an arrangement that gives them good access to block-bookings. The upside - we can pretty much guarantee a visit to see the Last Supper; the downside - it will cost more than a standard ticket. But standard tickets are hard to come by, and this is far more than a 'standard' tour. Over and above your guaranteed viewing of the Last Supper, you'll have both a bus tour and a guided walking tour of Milan.
The order and contents vary slightly according to your choice of start time, and duration is roughly three and a half hours. Both tours are available Tuesday to Sunday:
Morning tour (9.30AM start):
9.30 Departure from meeting point followed by a visit to the courtyards of the Castello Sforzesco, then bus transfer to the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and a viewing of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper.
11.00 A 'panoramic' tour of Milan by bus: Sant'Ambrogio, Parco delle Basiliche, Statale University, Corso Venezia, Piazza San Babila, Piazza Fontana.
12.00 A guided walking tour of the city centre: the Duomo (cathedral), Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Teatro alla Scala (the opera house). In the event of any special events taking place it is possible that the Duomo and La Scala visit may not be practical.
13.00 Tour ends in Piazza Scala.
