vatican-by-night-2014

Repeated after the success of the 2013 edition, special Friday night openings of the Vatican will once again be enhanced by a musical backdrop as part of the ‘Il Bello da Sentire’ initiative. Please see calendar below – not all Fridays are covered.

Every Friday evening, from May 2nd until October 31st 2014 (apart from August), you’ll have the rare chance to explore the Vatican at night-time. Entrance tickets allow full access to St Peters, the Sistine Chapel and the numerous Vatican Museums, and you may stay for as little or as long a time as you wish, with things staying open from 19.00 until 23.00 PM.

‘Il Bello da Sentire’ is repeated this year in conjunction with La Venaria Reale in Turin and the Turin State Conservatory. There will be performances of works by Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Bach, Bernstein and even Morricone. The schedule, a bit skinny on details, is as follows (concerts begin at 20.30 and last for around one hour):

  • 16th May – La Pinacoteca / The Picture Gallery – ‘Musica da Vedere / Music to See’.
  • 23rd May – L’Appartamento Borgia e La Collezione d’Arte Religiosa Moderna / Borgia Gallery, Modern Religious Art Collection – ‘Imagini e Rimandi Musicali / Images and Musical References’.
  • 30th May – Il Museo Gregoriano Profano e Il Museo Pio Clementino / Gregorian Profane Museum and the Pio Clementino Muesum – ‘Testimonianze Musicali dal Mondo Antico / Music From the Old World’.
  • 13th June – Il Museo Gregoriano Profano e Il Museo Pio Clementino / Gregorian Profane Museum and the Pio Clementino Muesum – ‘Testimonianze Musicali dal Mondo Antico / Music From the Old World’.
