Florence, Uffizi Gallery, 17th December 2011

A year late, and still only a partial opening, but an opening nonetheless. Tomorrow sees the official opening of eight rooms of the long-awaited ‘Nuovi Uffizi’ extension; not quite the Summer opening that we talked about here, but it is a definitive opening and will be attended by the Vice Minister for Culture.

For now the rooms are given over exclusively to foreign artists from the 16th century and the paintings are to be hung on blue walls, a colour chosen to contrast with the red of the floor tiles.
