Led by a knowledgeable and entertaining guide, you will combine a walk through this fascinating part of Rome with sampling the best and most genuine of Roman cuisine accompanied of course by typical Italian wines. Move from place to place, accompanied always by your local guide, hearing anecdotes about Roman cuisine and the fascinating district of Trastevere. This is a small-group (never more than 12 people) tour that heads off at 5.30 PM (also 5.50 PM and 6.10 PM in high season).
Ensure an authentic Roman eating experience with this ‘Locals’ food tour of Rome. The sheer choice of restaurants can make dining in this city a bit of a lottery but with this tour you will be guided to some special eateries that you would probably never find on your own.
Led by a knowledgeable and entertaining guide, you will combine a walk through this fascinating part of Rome with sampling the best - and most genuine - of Roman cuisine accompanied of course by typical Italian wines. The tour runs every day of the week apart from Sunday and does not run in August.
Meeting in Piazza Farnese, tours typically begin at 5.30PM (there are other tours at 5.50 PM and 6.10 PM at busier times) and last around 3.5 hours with a maximum group of 12 people. Strolling through Trastevere you will make at least 6 stops in various food outlets, with a minimum of 8 tastings and at least 3 glasses of wine.
Starting in the Campo de’Fiori area you will begin your Roman food tour with the ‘aperitivo’, a glass of prosecco or wine with an array of delicious local finger-snacks of cheese and cold cuts, and a great start to getting to know your english-speaking guide and other tour-participants.
You'll next discover a true hidden gem, a short way from Campo de’Fiori, where the traditional Roman street-snack is lovingly prepared - Filetti di Baccalà . This is stock-fish, dried and salted cod, prepared to be crisp on the ourside and light on the inside, it's appreicated with another glass of wine in hand.
After crossing the river into Trastevere you will find yourself in a foodie’s paradise packed with hundreds of excellent Roman restaurants. Stops will be made at a typical ‘Pizza al Taglio’ shop where you’ll see this most authentic of fast foods cut and weighed for consumption, and at a sit-down restaurant famed for its genuine Roman cuisine where you will usually be able to dine ‘al fresco’ in the beautiful piazza.
Your evening meal will comprise two popular Roman pasta dishes along with a selection of antipasti dishes, and more wine to marry with them. Learn about the food, even the recipes, and relax in a convivial atmosphere.
End the tour with - what else! - a last stop at an artisan gelateria where you can sample some of the many flavours on offer. Learn the difference between mass-produced ice cream and quality gelato, and perhaps venture into a few new taste experiences.
We will do our best to accommodate any food allergies or dietary restrictions - please let us know in advance. Please be aware that the scheduled stops on this tour are subject to change due to seasonal and holiday closures, but there will always be at least six stops and eight tastings.
