For now details are very thin on the ground - pretty much where and when - the 'what' will follow and we'll update this page as soon as we're able to. That said, it is already possible to make advance reservations for this, the first ever public show of works by Vermeer ever to be held in Italy.
So, 'Vermeer, il secolo d’oro dell’arte olandese' opens on the 1st of October 2012 and runs until the 20th of January 2013 (although this may well be extended). It will feature a range of works by the 17th century Dutch master as well as over 30 works by his contemporaries.
The exhibition is curated by Arthur K. Wheelock, curator of northern Baroque paintings, National Gallery of Art in Washington, by Walter Liedtke, curator of European paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and by Sandrina Bandera, superintendent for the historical, artistic, and ethno-anthropological heritage of Milan.
The venue for this exhibition is the Scuderie del Quirinale - the stables of the Quirinal Palace, the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic - that sit atop the Quirinal Hill, the tallest of Rome's seven hills. At present there is no dedicated entrance for pre-bookers but there are rarely any large queues.
